Highlighted achievements and awards for current students of the Marie Walton Mahon Dance Academy and the National College of Dance.

Student Achievements in 2009

  • At this years Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Genée Competition, in Singapore.  Daniel Roberge (18), Henrietta Ellice-Flint (17)and Danielle Muir (15). were selected as finalists, the first time for three students from the same school to be in the finals. Daniel Roberge won the silver medal, a very impressive achievement

Danielle Muir(NCD) who has received a scholarship to the Royal Ballet School in London for 2010, Danielle will complete her Diploma with the National College of Dance, which guarantees her university entrance in years to come.

Melanie Smith

(NCD) who has been accepted into the Professional Year at Queensland Ballet. Melanie will perform with the ballet company in numerous productions throughout 2010.

Nicole Clarke Mitchell

(NCD) is currently working on the television series 'Dance Academy' which will air on the ABC in the future

Raegan Williams

(NCD) has been offered an internship with the Melbourne Ballet Company

Isaac Houston

(NCD) has been offered a full contract with Tokyo Disney in February 2010

Daniel Roberge, Jacqueline Clarke Mitchell, Natalia Joaquim, Tahlia Shaw

have been briefed on contracts with Royal Caribbean Cruises

Betrice Walker

(MWM middle school student) has been offered a junior contract with the Australian Ballet Company who are performing Sleeping Beauty at the Opera House, Sydney in December

Daniel Roberge & Henrietta Ellice-Flint

have both successfully gained the Solo Seal award

Ashleigh Coburn & Prudence Smurthwaite

(MWM Seniors) have been nominated for HSC Dance Call Back

  • 4 finalists for the Youth of America Grand Prix in New York
  • 2 Scholarships awarded at the Youth of America Grand Prix including to Kaisey Johnston who has been offered a half-tuition scholarship for the Bolshoi Ballet Academy 's 2008 summer program held in Connecticut from June 30 to August 1, 2008.
  • Jordyn Ode  accepted into Joffrey Ballet, Washington Ballet
  • Ashley Swinbourne accepted into Joffrey Ballet
  • Sarah Browne accepted into Joffrey Ballet
  • Khadi Wolf-Brooke accepted into Joffrey Ballet, Ajkun Ballet Theatre
  • Chloe Bayliss accepted into Washington Ballet, Joffrey Ballet
  • Kaisey Johnston accepted into Joffrey Ballet (scholarship), Washington Ballet, Ajkun Ballet
  • Henrietta Ellice-Flint accepted into Washington Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Miami Ballet, Ajkun Ballet Theatre
  • Daniel Roberge accepted into Steps on Broadway (Scholarship), Joffrey Ballet, Washington Ballet,
  • Jasmin Dwyer accepted into Washington Ballet (Full Scholarship), Miami Ballet, Ajkun Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet School (scholarship). 
  • Kaisey Johnston has been offered a contract with the Metropolitan Classical Ballet in the USA for September 2008.
  • Sarah Browne and Ashley Swinbourne take up contracts with Carnival Cruise Ships, they have deferred their studies and will resume the Diploma course upon completion of their contracts.
  • Jasmin Dwyer 17 years old from Marylands has accepted a professional contract with the Washington Ballet Company to commence in September 2008


2008 Graduating Diploma Students

  • Natalia Joaquim was offered a contract with Princess Cruises for 2009. Also Natalia had auditioned to perform with Tokyo Disney
  • Tenealle Johnson-Roll was offered a place in the 2nd year at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance
  • Sophie Lidbury may take up a contract with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, while auditioning for dance opportunities or further study overseas
  • Courtney McKinnon plans to pursue her dream to teach and continue her dancing on the Central Coast, NSW
  • Jordyn Ode, due to injury, will commence the year in rehabilitation mode and will continue dance classes and auditions
  • Mia Powter is considering taking up an offer of scholarship to the Joffrey Ballet School in New York for further training in 2009 and will also be performing with the Ajkun Ballet Theatre in America
  • Hayley Raw signed a 10 month contract with Royal Carribean Cruises. Hayley will audition in 2009 for dance companies who specialise in the contemporary style
  • Ashlyne Wardle will return to Queensland to pursue further study and audition for further work overseas
  • Khadi Wolf-Brooke in 2009, will join the Ajkun Ballet Theatre in New York as a full time company trainee and will have the opportunity to dance in Italy and New York.
