Once Upon a Ballet
At NCDA we use the Once Upon a Ballet curriculum for our 2 to 5 year olds.
Children learn age appropriate dance concepts and correct ballet technique through imagination, fun and creativity.
This beautiful dance class combines dance, music and props for fun learning and special bonding.
Classical Ballet
Classical ballet is a traditional, formal style of ballet that adheres to classical ballet technique.
NCDA uses the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. The Royal Academy of Dance is the world’s largest ballet organisation.
We recommend that every student take ballet classes to develop good posture, poise, graceful arms, strong legs and feet.

AcroJazz
Jazz is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality.
This dance style is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Acrobatics is incorporated in this class.
The class is based on safe and effective progressions in the five divisions of Acrobatics: Flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling.
Lyrical
Lyrical combines free flowing movement and self expression.
This modern dance style gives dancers a chance to express a range of strong emotions through movement.
Movements in lyrical dance are characterised by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one step to the next. Leaps are exceptionally high and soaring, and turns are fluid and continuous.
This class gives students a sense of empowerment to find their unique style.

Contemporary
Contemporary dance is the edgier sister of lyrical.
Its movements are sharper and stronger, powered by abstract ideas and deeper emotions.
Dancers will learn how to reimagine the fundamental principles of classical dance.
This modern dance is considered a more grounded style because of the extensive floor work.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a style of street dance which combines grooves and techniques from other styles as well as taking influence from R&B, Rap and Hip Hop music.
This lively class blends urban dance elements like popping, locking, breaking and freestyle.
Dancers will develop confidence and learn how to express themselves in this upbeat and fun class.

Pilates
Pilates is a dancer’s best friend.
This form of strength training helps dancers strengthen and lengthen their muscles. Dancers will also improve their flexibility and mobility.
Barre is incorporated into this fitness class. Barre training is a ballet inspired exercise. In addition to the ballet barre, equipment such as resistance bands, exercise balls and hand weights are used.
We recommend this class for dancers aged 14+ who are serious about their training.
Tricks
Contemporary and Acro Tricks class is for students who want to elevate their acrobatic technique.
Using the five divisions of Acrobatics, dancers can learn more advanced tricks.
Dancers will also partake in advanced contemporary floor work exercises and partner work.
This class is for dancers 14+ and invite only.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are for students who wish to take their dancing to the next level.
Dancers can choose to use their lesson to refine their technique and learn new styles. Students can also learn solo pieces or join with other dancers to learn a duo or trio piece.

Kind Words
"My girls have been dancing with Melinda and North Coast Dance Academy for almost 10 years. I highly recommend NCDA if your child is looking to express themselves in a fun, safe and supportive environment. NCDA is the perfect combination of passion and professionalism. My daughters love their dance lessons as well as the end of year concert. Over the years they have been able to try a range of styles - ballet, acrojazz, lyrical and hip hop. I have witnessed their confidence and skills grow.
As a mother I am thrilled with how NCDA empowers young people to feel that they are enough just the way they are!”
